Welcome to my exclusive interview with Bree. I hope I asked enough and the right questions for a interesting little read, but who knows. I sat down with Bree the Cycle 2 Winner of IMDB'S Next Top Model and getting ready to ask her some pretty tough questions.
Hello Bree!
Hi!
So you are the recent winner of IMDB's Next Top Model, and throughout the cycle you have taken some beautiful pictures that I can honestly see in the fashion world. So now that you have won, what's going through your head?
First of all, thank you for the compliments on my pictures! That means a lot! My initial reaction was honestly this huge inarticulate jumble of "OMGWTFWHAAAAAAAAAA?!" Really, obviously I was HOPING to see my picture, but I wasn't entirely EXPECTING it. So when I saw it, my heart dropped and I just felt a huge smile, and a ginormous amount of gratitude. It's only been about an hour since I found out and I just can't stop thinking, "I DID it!" and more importantly, "I CAN do it!" I hope this won't be the end!
It's weird because I know personally I have said, I don't think you want this, I think she's just here for a fun ride, and you have expressed that you do like fashion, but your heart may not have been 100% in the game, I am glad to see that when you won, it just reassured you of your being here and you winning the cycle. It's like the moment everybody is waiting for, like Britney becoming Sane, finally Making the Band. Do you think that you kinda did that because you had some issues with actually believing you where pretty?
No, actually to be honest I told myself that I needed to leave my self-esteem issues out of this. The reason I partook in this is because I consider myself an artist. As a dancer, I'm used to making art with my body. I've always looked at couture pictures and wanted a chance to do that. I consider fashion photography such an amazing thing, and I've always wanted an opportunity to do that. But there are parts of the modeling world that I consider intimidating, and a bit scary. Maybe there's still an immaturity in me that is not ready for it. I have a billion different passions - I dance, I am a musician, I am in university right now to be a teacher. So what this was to me was an opportunity to be that model-artist without having to go extreme to being a "real life" model.
That is something that I noticed, you always posted stuff about your dancing, singing and then of course the modeling, but I never knew, teacher, what do you want to teach?
Yep, I love teaching! My major is languages and literatures and I want to teach English and French mostly (French is my first language), but I also have a background in classical music and would love to teach music. I'm also an official member of the CDTA (Canadian Dance Teacher's Association) with my teaching certificates in ballet and tap. I love teaching, because teachers (good and bad) have always left a lasting impact on me! Especially English teachers.
Most definitely, teachers have always been a really big inspiration on me. Granted I dated my teacher, but I have considered being a teacher once, which is totally a side note. Which of the models was your best friend or that you got along with the most in the competition?
Dating a teacher! Wooh! Scandal!
No scandal there, lol
Ha.
In terms of being close with the models, I think I got close with him in different ways. Blom was the first person I bonded with because we had a ton in common, and we always have each others' backs. But recently, well, you've seen how much of a zoo the forum has been. Connan, Marlee, and Mel are fun as hell!! And Jeraldo and I have been very supportive of each other. He's truly a good guy. I think all around I try to be supportive and positive with everyone because everyone needs a friend sometimes, and I do so to hope that when I need a shoulder to cry on I'll have them. It's worked out quite well so far with the exception of a few models whom I never got to know quite as well.
Now that you mention it, if there is anyone in the competition that you may have not known that well, who do you think you would love to like sit and just talk with? Is there anyone you would like to do a Q&A with?
I always felt bad that Krissy left before we got a chance to know her. She seemed like such a genuinely nice and fun person. I wasn't close with Lucy in a different way. I felt like she got the idea I didn't like her because I never made a big deal over her pictures. Then as we went further in the competition together, the wall between us got more and more evident. I wish I had gotten to know her better in the beginning of the competition, because it almost seemed like too little too late when we finally were NICE to each other in the end.
Yeah I feel bad for Krissy, because she is literally just gone, it's insane. I never wanted to voice that, but I never got the feeling that you and Lucy spoke much. If you had to replace some models from season 2 with season 1 models who and why, or who would be in your dream cycle!?
Ohhh that's a difficult question!! Well, my dream cycle would probably involve the fiercest competitors! I wouldn't put myself in it because I would loooove to watch it. I'd put in Lucy and Cozy because they definitely put so much work into their pictures. I'd put in Milla-J Joe because he was fiiiierce and also a tad arrogant in all the right ways. Avess is another personal favourite of mine because he had very interesting pictures AND he is also such a random, funny personality. I love him!! Manny too. I consider her a silent threat. She had this very saucy confidence. And Connan, I wish we could have seen more from him!
You are so presidential when you answer, if you know the answer will get you in trouble you just say something else. LOL.
*NERVOUS LAUGHTER*
Okay so in one word describe each of the models.
AVA - Adorable
BLOM - Individual
BALLARD - Serious
CONNAN - Lighthearted
ERIK - Sensitive
JERALDO - Supportive
LUCY - Muse
MEL - Creative
MARLEE - Upbeat
MANNY - Glamorous
In many instances I believe a person's most defining trait is both their best and worst feature!
I really think that one of your best features is your eyes, they I think the perfect shape and I also love your jaw line, it's not typical so that gives it an edge, what where you afraid of the most in this competition, photography wise?
First of all, thank you! I had never noticed my eyes before... not that I thought they were ugly, I just never considered them remarkable. I was nervous about my chin. I agree, my jawline is slightly irregular, and when I go to extreme profile you can see I actually have a touch of a Leno-chin. I've come to embrace it in person and know that it makes my smile look bigger, but I was worried about mastering my angles in pictures, to "cheat" my big-ass chin. As the competition went on I noticed that I was most powerful face-on, or at least turned a bit towards the camera. So what I thought was my weakness turned into my strength in a way!
Yeah that's awesome I don't think my BIG NOSE will ever be my weakness nor my strength. So let's talk about the photoshoots.
Which shoot was your favourite?
Big schnozzes are beautiful, Ballard!!
HAHA Agreed!
Hmm... well, each shoot I went into with a good sense of humour, because being miserable during a shoot SUCKS. My favourite was probably the one in the shower, because I got myself really pumped up with a playlist and everything. I also really enjoyed the Jeffree Star photoshoot because I did it with my boyfriend. Again we made a good metal playlist and just went for it. I was in such a "zone" during that one, that it turned out to be really fun and I thought "Daaaamn, this may be a calling!" Plus, I got to eat fruit loops after!!
I prefer SMART START, but I most def would have eaten some Fruit Loops! What photoshoot do you think you thought, "Okay I am going to submit these and I will probably get sent home!" I mean did you ever think that?
My ghost pictures. Had it not been for Krissy quitting I very well may have gotten sent home. I'm so glad I didn't. It was homecoming weekend and I was with my boyfriend the whole time. We should have squeezed in more time to do it, but I just figured I'd sit and a pretty picture would turn out. Guess I was a bit cocky coming off my first call-out the week before. We were together for over two hours taking pictures; each one was terrible! I pulled together four to submit and just looked at him and said, "These suck... I have to be worried." I was especially worried when I saw Ava's picture up first - I realized I missed the mark sooo badly! Man, am I ever glad I learned from then on!
Thanks for at least admitting it. I think that makes a better human being when you can at least admit when your not doing so well. No pun intended. If you could shoot with one of the other models in a photoshoot who would it be and why?
Well for reasons of camaraderie, I would love to shoot with Jeraldo or Blom. But in terms of model looks I would really like to shoot with Ava. I think we have similar looks - we're fairly normal looking girls with something that makes us slightly edgy. We have parts about us which are very similar (our hair colour and body types) and parts about us which contrast each other (her very dark eyes versus my very light eyes, our different styles). I honestly think we could do some sort of cool Gemini twin photoshoot! She's the female I'd most love to work with.
I would love to see you too in a shoot together. Is there any elimination you wish you could have prevented and why?
Aw, well, as mentioned before I wish I could have prevented whatever happened in Krissy's life from happening, so she'd still be with us. Since we never really "lost" anyone I'm not going to wish to prevent an elimination based on camaraderie once again, but I DO think Connan deserved another chance during the murderer shoot... he had more promise than that. To be honest I didn't think he OR Marlee would have been in B2 that panel. But Connan's few things he's shown of us post-show, well, let's just say as a typical nineteen-year-old young woman, I was transfixed! He had a lot of promise.
I agree! My favourite thing about Connan is his eyes, I think they are different. So did you ever think Sweet_Lesus had it out for anyone? Did you think the judging was fair?
Oooh, tough question. When I think back and really consider everything, no, I think they gave people chances even if they didn't like them. Sometimes I could tell they made a really hard decision because they let someone go whom they really really enjoyed as a person. In fact, panel #2 I thought YOU would be in the bottom 2, just because so many of us had called you out for your "attitude." But alas, it was based on pictures, not personality opinions. I never thought they brought personal stuff in, but I really do think they were harder on Mel than I would have been.
Yeah, I 100% agree with you on that. So do you have any advice for people who want to try out for Cycle 3?
My number one advice to contestants trying out for cycle three is above all, PUSH YOURSELF! It is NOT enough that you are gorgeous or confident or sexy. I think Jeraldo, Lucy and I went furthest because we really pushed ourselves. You can't just slack off when you think you're doing great because one bad picture can send you packing. Giving 110% is not just a cliché - it's something everyone needs to do. It may kill you, but I was proudest of myself when I made a REALLY big effort.
After those words of wisdom, do you have anything else you would like to say to the rest of the world watching?
I am soooo thankful for this whole experience. Winning was just the icing on the cake!!
And to all you girls out there who make fun of the weirdo/tomboy/bookworm, she just may come back to bite you in the ass someday!
Well said Bree, well said! That was my exclusive interview with Bree Cycle 2 Winner of IMDB'S Next Top Model. This interview was brought to you VIA SKYPE! Okay not really, but Oprah always says that now.
